Did I really start a writing blog? Well, it would appear so.
And here you are, reading it! Thank you!
As far back as I can remember, I have had story arcs and characters swimming about in my head. Some of them would be quite persistent, nagging me into reliving a scene over and over ensuring that I never truly get a full night’s sleep. The plot would swim in my head until it finally exhausted itself and went away. Who knows how many untold tales I let go off into the unwritten abyss with the excuse of being ‘too busy’ to seriously write.
A little over two years ago, I made a life-changing decision. With the support of my husband and kids, I walked away from my teaching career. I received my real estate license to help supplement my income and create my own flexible schedule. At that time, I rediscovered something.
I love to read!
Not really a shocker as my adolescent nose was always stuck in a book. But I found time once again to lose myself in the storytelling of talented writers. Every time I had to drive to showings in a neighboring town, I would play an audiobook to pass the time.
Without warning, my own creativity began to nudge me once more! More than once my family would come upon me zoning off as I rehashed a scene in my head. I talk to myself a lot, so I am pretty sure they all think I’m crazy. My characters were becoming clear, my plot starting to take form.
One night, I took the plunge. Without really knowing what I was doing, I signed up for a free trial of Scrivener. Quite a steep learning curve for someone who had never worked on anything more than a short story before. But I typed my heart out.
And then I erased it all.
Because, I’ll be honest, it was absolute garbage. But my next go was much better! I can’t tell you the relief I felt once the most insistent scenes were out and on the screen.
Thanks in part to NaNoWriMo, my current WIP is nearly finished. It is, of course, in need of relentless editing. I can’t wait!
Thanks for reading my first post!
Cheers!
Avie
