Loved this book!
I have been waiting to read Jax’s story since I first read book one in this series. His empathy always shines through and I loved him. Emily did a brilliant job of using that empathy on a heroine who needed him most.
Blakely is such a sympathetic character. It is clear from the first page that she is struggling. She is living the life of a Hollywood socialite and influencer, but her mental health is in shambles. She is surrounded by people who only want a piece of her and have no time for her needs. So Jax is a welcomed presence in her life.
I don’t normally reach for age gap books. I often find the younger character to be so irritating that I don’t get why the older one would want them (unless it’s erotica, then… well). Emily does a beautiful job in balancing the differences in their ages and makes their relationship warm and believable.
As usual, Emily delivers on the steam. Blakely’s inexperience is handled nicely as we don’t really get the cliche ‘I have conquered the virgin’ attitude from Jax.
I highly recommend Beneath the Hood. If you haven’t read the other two books from the Sugarlake series, you should!
